A Brief Discussion on the Main Application Fields of Centrifuges

2025-08-22 7

As a general testing equipment, centrifuges are mainly divided into low-speed and high-speed centrifuges according to their rotational speed. Those with a rotational speed below 10,000 revolutions per minute are low-speed centrifuges, and those with a rotational speed above 10,000 revolutions per minute are high-speed centrifuges. They can also be divided into normal-temperature centrifuges and refrigerated centrifuges according to temperature. They have a wide range of applications, mainly in the following categories.

Medical institutions

  • Hospitals

Centrifuges in hospitals are mainly used for separating liquid samples such as blood, urine, and ascites. In particular, centrifuges are essential instruments in the laboratory department. In Grade III Class A hospitals, the number of blood samples in the laboratory department is very large. Therefore, current medical automatic decapping centrifuges are very popular among doctors. Because the automatic decapping function of such centrifuges not only saves the trouble of manually removing caps but also saves working time and improves work efficiency, making them the first choice for doctors when selecting centrifuges.

  • Blood stations and blood banks

Most centrifuges used in blood stations and blood banks are large-capacity centrifuges, which are used for separating components of blood in blood bags, separating various components in the blood for transfusion of relevant components in the treatment of different diseases. Usually, ultra-large-capacity refrigerated centrifuges are selected.

  • Centers for disease control and quarantine institutions

Centrifuges in centers for disease control and quarantine institutions are mainly used for testing and separating blood samples, extracting relevant components, and detecting related diseases.

Colleges and universities, research institutions

  • Centrifuges are common instruments in the fields of biology teaching, laboratories, and medical research. Centrifugation technology is also an important means for separating, preparing, and purifying biological samples. Precipitation centrifugation, differential centrifugation, and density gradient centrifugation are three commonly used centrifugation methods in laboratories.
  • Laboratory centrifuges have an extremely wide range of applications, including blood separation, virus research, DNA research, drug purification, and separation of particles with different densities in solutions. They are essential experimental instruments for production and research units in radioimmunoassay, biochemistry, environmental protection, etc.

Pharmaceutical factories

Centrifuges used in pharmaceutical factories are mainly divided into two categories

  • One is laboratory centrifuges, mainly used in research and development departments. Low-speed centrifuges, high-speed centrifuges, high-speed refrigerated centrifuges are selected, and ultracentrifuges may also be necessary.
  • The other is production centrifuges, mainly used in production (bioengineering, biopharmaceuticals, genetic engineering, biochemistry, plant extraction, blood products, food processing, petrochemicals, milk fat separation). Vertical low-speed large-capacity centrifuges or vertical ultra-large-capacity refrigerated centrifuges are mainly selected.

In addition to the above-mentioned fields, centrifuges are also used in more fields, such as public security bureaus and testing fields.
