Breaking! Trump Announces Imposing an Additional 100% Tariff on China, to Take Effect Starting November 1

2025-10-13 18

On October 10 (Pacific Time, PT), U.S. President Donald Trump issued a post on a social media platform to announce that starting from November 1, he will impose an additional 100% tariff on all Chinese goods exported to the United States, on the basis of the existing tariffs. Meanwhile, he will implement strict export controls on "all key software made in the United States".

It is learned that the new tariffs will cover consumer electronics, mechanical equipment, textiles and other products, involving nearly all categories. As for the software export controls, they will target operating systems, AI algorithms, semiconductor design software, enterprise-level software and other types of software. An export licensing system will be adopted: exports to Chinese entities are prohibited without approval, and software updates and service support will also be restricted.

Trump stated that this move is a response to China's recent actions. One day earlier, China announced new restrictive measures on the trade of rare earth minerals and related technologies; on October 10, China's Ministry of Transport also announced that it would collect "special port dues for ships" on ships related to the United States, in retaliation against similar measures previously taken by the United States.

Affected by this news, the U.S. stock market fell sharply. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped by more than 3.5%, and the S&P 500 Index fell by 2.7%, both setting the largest single-day decline since April. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also fell by nearly 900 points. Technology stocks and Chinese concept stocks were hit particularly hard: the stock prices of major companies such as Tesla and NVIDIA all saw relatively large declines, and the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index dropped by more than 6%. At present, a series of measures taken by both China and the United States have caused the economic and trade relations between the two countries to fall into a tense atmosphere once again.
